The bollocks of bio feedback.

Nothing gets me more riled up than seeing people conned by the health care industry. It is easy to argue that individuals need to be responsible for decisions they make with regards their choices of health care providers but many lay folk are not aware that a large portion of the wellness industry is unregulated. ProfessionalLiabilityInsuranceQuoteForResultsTravelIn other words not answerable to a professional body or bound by a code of conduct.

It seems nowadays anybody can open up a clinic of sorts and promote just about anything to aid weight loss, ucm341964cure diabetes, kill parasites, reduce cholesterol ( why would we want to do that right ?)and enhance penis size.

A huge draw card for thousands of gullible people are noninvasive “bio feedback ” machines that claim to be able to diagnose myriad diseases and bodily malfunctions  by detecting the “energy imbalance” causing the problem.

There are different varieties of these machines but they all function on the same basis. The system consists of a base station plus a hand-held device that is claimed to scan the body and treat the gamut of disease by detecting and correcting “vibrations” associated with organ dysfunction. These devices merely measure skin resistance to the passage of electrical current. However, many are claimed to determine the cause of any disease, food sensitivities and vitamin deficiencies.emeter-660x375 These machines may spit out some sophisticated graphics but there is NO scientific research showing that any of these machines can diagnose or cure medical problems.

So how did this hocus pocus come about? In the late 1980s, an out-of-work math instructor in Colorado built an electronic device he claimed could diagnose and destroy disease — everything from allergies to cancer — by firing radio frequencies into the body.

The FDA ordered William Nelson to stop selling his machine and making false claims. He refused and was charged with fraud but fled the country never to return. Nelson orchestrates his massive health care fraud from an old building in Budapest.Protected by barred gates, surveillance cameras and guards, he rakes in tens of millions of dollars selling a machine used to exploit the vulnerable and desperately ill. Nelson recruits a sales force of unscrupulous physicians, chiropractors, nurses and thousands of unlicensed providers, from homemakers to retirees, drawn by the promise of easy money. Read about unfortunate victims of this scam here  and here

A couple of these nonsensical scams have been exposed here in South Africa -The Quantum SCIO-EPFX or also known as Scio Full Body Scan, or simply SCIO-EPFX described by the website Camwatch as a major scam being used on consumers in South Africa. SCIO stands for Scientific Consciousness Interface Operation system.Read about it here and the ONDAMED system, which consists of a base station plus a hand-held device that is claimed to scan the body and treat  diseases by detecting and correcting “vibrations” associated with organ dysfunction. more details here

These are just two of dozens of bogus low-voltage “scanners” used by thousands of chiropractors, acupuncturists, dentists, “holistic” physicians, veterinarians, self-styled “nutritionists,” and various unlicensed individuals.

So what about this makes me so mad ?
Anger

Many people who pay good money for this BS are suffering from chronic illnesses and debilitating pain and will grasp at any promise of a cure. Some have limited financial resources and yet get caught up in spending money not just on the ” body scan” but get coerced into purchasing hundreds of rands($$) of supplements and products to help “eliminate parasites and detox livers and kidneys.” Metabolically sick people are put on bizarre diets that are not only unsustainable, they are downright  detrimental to the patients health.

These unscrupulous and largely unqualified ” practitioners”not only drain a patients bank account, they misdiagnose disease and potentially divert critically ill people from life-saving care.

There are no short cuts to good health. There is no miracle cure or quick fix detox that is snake-oil-bottle-cropped-labelgoing to put you on the road to recovery and you most certainly do not need to line anybodies pockets buying any supplements, parasite killing agents and energy boosters.
